Churchgate Street / Old Harlow Essex

House Extension Landscape and refurbishment

Working with Formx Architects was an informative and pleasurable process. Our ideas and aspirations for the house were realised through the attention and dedication of Adam and his team.  We were impressed with the creative input that the architect provided and the way the project was managed to avoid risk and overspend. The information that was provided to the selected contractor was comprehensive and detailed, covering all that was needed to avoid any complications.

We are thrilled with the results and the new bright spaces are a joy for all the family to use. The connection with the landscape is also wonderful. Good design really does make a difference to everyone’s well-being.

The house sits high on the side of a small valley with a long garden that sweeps downwards towards a twisting brook. Adjacent to the conservation area of Churchgate Street the small enclave of houses share a verdant landscape with mature trees lining the drive and an abundance of wildlife.

The twelve linear metre retractable glazing wall exploits the extensive views and provides the key space for dining cooking and living.

Music and textile design informed the brief to develop a completely new ground floor plan that provided a flexibly series of spaces for a creative family of four.

A layered approach to the landscape will vary seasonal colour /texture and structural layout, in a series of spaces descending from the terrace to the river.
