Cricketfield Lane / Bishops Stortford

Side Extension and Renovation to 1960s House

We worked with Adam on a large renovation project. His plans for our house were creative and practical and he was a great help managing the project from start to finish. We love the end result and are very grateful to Adam for his input and expertise. Would highly recommend his work.

Cricketfield Lane Kitchen view

The Cricketfield Lane project re-works the ground floor of a detached house to put right the previous alterations to the building which moved the kitchen to the dark front of the house and left the original kitchen as a windowless room in the centre of the plan, good for nothing except watching films.

The house also had a side addition added that was long dark and being very narrow not good for much except storage. The new owners asked Formx architects to see if we could come up with a way to solve all these spatial issues.

The solution was to move the kitchen to the rear south facing part of the house, remove the end wall of the ground floor (suported by a long steel beam)  and glaze over the side addition to bring light from above down into the new kitchen. This also allowed a new utility space to be added. This is the third location for the kitchen in the short life of the house. Its now right.
