Grailands

Our brief to extend the ground floor and enhance the entrance resulted in a front-to-back solution using the same palette of materials to form a sequencial experience from entry through to garden. Entrance/Hall/kitchen/Garden.

Changing the render to the front elevation we were able to reference the existing brick which informed the choice copper and Shou-Sugi- Ban timber. These materials have subtle textures and complimetary tones giving the building a crafted and richer identity.

The redesigned spaces form an architectural passage through the house, allowing the design to unify the ground floor and extend the approach into the landscape.
Modifications are proposed to the front and rear gardens. The rear garden remodelled to provide a large terrace and steps with tiered planting beds close to the dining area.
