Cottage orné, is translated as a decorated cottage and dates back to a movement of ‘rustic’ stylised cottages of the late 18th and early 19th century. Pond Cross is a charming example, with herringbone brick work and cast iron bay window details. Our brief is to enlarge the property with a rear kitchen and dining extension.
The building is listed (Grade II) and our approach is one of discreet insertion of the new building with attention to the visual coherence of the old and the new, how the two are joined and the material selections.
