Stourdale Close / Manningtree / Essex
Courtyard Kitchen and Reconfiguration
The house is close to Manningtree and sits at the edge of the Dedham Vale AONB and the nearby River Stour. We explored how to provide a new family kitchen and dining room to the rear of the house with an emphasis on a landscape driven response. The plan places the new building away from the main house, connected via a glazed link. This creates a central garden courtyard that is surounded on three sides.

Alterations to the main house compliment the new building to provide three internal spaces that connect physically and visually to the courtyard which becomes the focal space to the house. The layout also creates a second secluded shade garden to the rear of what was the original dining room, viewed through the large square window.
